Robert ‘Top’ of the pile at Galgorm Castle

At halfway Jim Millar (19) was a point ahead of Robert Topping (17), Sean McCormick (5) and David McAleese (16). They were another point ahead of George Kernohan (18) and Joshua Hill (17). Through the Maple Millar was joined by Kernohan one point ahead of Topping and McCormick. Hill and McAleese were another two and four points respectively further behind. Pars at fourteen and fifteen enabled Topping to overtake the two leaders (Millar and Kernohan) and Topping finished with two bogeys and managed to hold off a late surge by McCormick (two pars) and Millar (two bogeys) to win Overall by one point. Runner-Up Prize went to McCormick with a better back nine.

Millar won Division 3 by one point from Kernohan who finished bogey, double bogey. Hill did not help his score when he ‘dinged’ the sixteenth and McAleese (par, ‘ding’) finished another point behind and with a better back nine third place was taken by Hill.

Division 1 turned into an exciting and pulsating finish with only one point separating the first six players. After the front nine Norman Reid (10) and Paul Houston (5) were leading by one point from Jamie Sutherland (-1) and David Martin (10) whi in turn were a point in front of Joel McNeilly (6) and Colin Steele (4). McNeilly with two birdies and two pars over the next four holes opened up a four point advantage over Reid, Houston and Martin. McNeilly then ran into bogey trouble over the next three holes and his lead was reduced to one point by Sutherland and in an exciting ending, McNeilly and Sutherland finished together and with a better back nine first place went to Sutherland with McNeilly in second place. Reid claimed third thanks to a better back six score.

Entering the back nine in Division 2 Alistair McKervill (15) held acommanding three point lead from Jamie Surgeoner (11), Darryl Robinson (13) and Raymond Ardis (12). Through the Maple McKervill was two, three and four points respectively ahead of Ardis, Robinson and Surgeoner. McKervill had increased his lead to three points ahead of Ardis who was two points ahead of Surgeoner and Robinson. McKervill came home double bogey, ‘ding’ to win by two points. With a better back three Surgeoner took second place with Robinson (better back six) third.

Division 4 saw Jack Douglas (20) and Russell McBride (20) vying for the lead after nine with Christopher McBurney (25) and Raymond McDyer (22) close up one point behind. In a very close encounter over the closing two holes Douglas (par, bogey) joined McBride (two bogeys) and with a better back three first place went to Douglas with McBride in second. Two further points away McBurney (par, double bogey)held on to third place a point ahead of McDyer.
