Robin and Raymond snap up Herron Trophy at Galgorm Castle

The Herron Trophy was played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club as a Better Ball Stableford Competition over nine holes.

There was a very close finish to the competition with only one shot separating five pairings.

There was a four way tie for the lead through the Trout Hole between Robin Deane (21)/Raymond Lynn (21); Michael N esbitt (14)/Hugh Mussen (25); Paul Houston (4)/Peter Houston (8) and Patrick Reid (17)/Timothy Roddy (24) with the Tony Carroll (12)/Tony Quinn (9) pairing one shot behind.

The Carroll/Quinn combination after a birdie, par, birdie run moved into a one shot advantage over the Reid/Roddy pairing through Broadmeadows. Deane and Lynn and Houston and Houston were a further shot back followed by Nesbitt and Mussen another shot away.

Carroll and Quinn bogeyed The Treasury and were joined in the lead by Reid and Roddy with a bogey. A shot behind after pars came Deane and Lynn and Houston and Houston.

A birdie, bogey finish by Deane and Lynn saw them home to win by one shot from Reid/Roddy (two bogeys), Carroll/Quinn (two bogeys), Houston and Houston (two pars) and Nesbitt and Mussen (two pars) who all finished together. Second place went to the Carroll/Quinn pairing with a better last six.

Third place went to M.Nesbitt and Mussen with a better last three.

The Houston/Houston partnership finished in fourh place with a better last three and in fifth place came Reid and Roddy.
