Rory gives backing to NI Open at Galgorm

Galgorm Castle Golf Club’s preparations for hosting a prestigious international event have been given a seal of approval - by one of the sport’s biggest names!

Rory McIlroy Tweeted his support for the Northern Ireland Open at Galgorm Castle.

The Ballymena-based club is putting the finishing touches to its preparations for next week’s Northern Ireland Open.

But even club officials were stunned last week to receive a Tweet from golfing superstar Rory McIlroy offering his support.

The two-time Major winner Tweeted: “All the best for everyone involved with the Northern Ireland Open @GalgormCastle in a couple of weeks”.

The tournament runs from Thursday, August 29 until Sunday, September 1 and among the players taking part are Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey, who recently won the European Tour’s Russian Open.

Galgorm Castle is currently offering 20 per cent discount tickets for the four days of the tournament - see www.niopen.co.uk for details.

Prior to the event itself, Ballymena Town Centre Development Ltd is delighted to be bringing the golfing ‘buzz’ into the Town Centre before the event.

This Saturday, 24th August from 1.00pm – 3.00pm Junior Golf Ireland will be in attendance along with the Golf Pro from Galgorm Castle, Alistair McDermott to assist with all your golfing queries and will help you to perfect your swing!

There will also be face painters, balloon modellers etc for a fun-filled afternoon, to be held in Wellington Court.
