Shaw going strong at Irish Open

Lurgan’s Gareth Shaw is producing his best golf of the year at the Irish Open.

The 27-year-old is on 5 under after three solid rounds of 73, 68 and 70 today to lie tied 20th on a course that has got the better of players like Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell.

Gareth got a call late to play in the Open being hosted at Carton House, but is in line for a huge financial boost with one round to go - another sub par round would give him a European Tour debut to remember.

He was recently appointed as Galgorm Castle’s touring professional and is a regular on the Challenge Tour.

“Anything now is a bonus for me,” said a delighted Shaw. “I have been beginning to play well in recent tournaments and am delighted with the way things have gone after three rounds.”
