Team classic success for trio

THE Prehen course was in fabulous condition on Sunday as teams vied to be first in the Team Classic.

By the end of the day a three man team topped the board with a massive 97 points tally. Peter McMahon (28), Michael Lynch (21) and Ciaran Morrison (10) gelled superbly well together putting 48 points on the board for the front nine and adding a very credible 49 points on the back nine.

Peter, Michael and Ciaran will be toasting the help of their "Mythical Man" who flew to their aid on several occasions with his 20 handicap!

Second place was taken by the team of John Rossborough (12), Eamon Maxwell (19), John Mohan (12) and club captain Brian Abel (22) on a fabulous score of 96 points. With a hefty 50 points on the front nine the Captain's Team looked to be heading for victory and when John Rosborough holed out at Billy's it must have looked as if the glittering prize was in their grasp. But they came up a single point shy of victory.

Members are reminded that the Friday Night Mixed Foursomes are back in full swing. From Friday members can play anytime during the day and then joint the festive prize-giving at 9pm in the clubhouse.

The long slog to win this prestigious trophy began in earnest at City of Derry Golf Club on Saturday. With only 16 places available in the match play finals competition was destined to be tough.

At the end of the day Lester Moore (3) and Paul O'Donnell (6) topped the field with a massive 45 points qualifying total. Stuart McClelland (10) and Christopher Ross (10) grabbed second spot on 43 points.

The top sixteen teams should check the notice board for their match play opponents.

While even high handicappers sometimes experience a day in the sun and on Thursday Patsy Gallagher found the rays that made his playing partners envious.

A storming 44 points playing off a handicap of 26 saw Patsy top the competition and lose a massive 2.4 shots off his handicap.

Only time will tell if he can remain calm enough as his handicap is bound for freefall after this performance. Look out the Ardmore contingent in the daily matches!
