The winter league resumes at Rockmount

Following the heavy rain on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning and despite the persistence of the green keepers with the course saturated they admitted defeat; week nine of the 2012/2013 Andrew Annett Winter League competition was thereby abandoned.

The week eight scores have been totalled and added to last week’s scores; in league A, the places for first and second remain the same with ‘Anything but Hockey’ 343 and ‘Handcuffed to an Idiot’ 335; the gap between the two teams has increased by 2 points.

In league B, first and second have also remained in the same positions ‘Oggie and the Sprinkler Heads’ have 352 and ‘This is Madness’ have 345.

In league C, team ‘Life without Brian’ have 342 and remain top of this league however ‘TBA’ who also have 342 move into equal first.

In league D, the runaway leaders ‘Frankly Awful’ have 351 and closing the gap by one point (from 14 points to 13 points) ‘Joseph’s Dream Team’ have 338. The scores take into account the four dropped scores.

In the singles competition’s (0-13) section; the previous leader Russell McDonald, 111 points has been pushed down to fourth with James Adams, Alan Young and Michael McCormick all on 112 points; (13.1-18.5) section is led by Frank Wallace with 117 points with Stephen Young on 114 points in second place (no change in positions from previous week); (18.6-28) section is led by Colin McClelland on 119 points with Frank McCourt second on 116 points (again no change in positions from previous week).

After the enforced sabbatical due to the weather Rockmount Golf Club’s 2012/2013 Andrew Annett winter league competition resumed after Christmas.

A large number turned out, presumably to shake of the excess Christmas indulgences in the fresh but challenging conditions.

Mel Power (12) top scored with 31 points his net seven under par score was two points better than his nearest challenger Paul Clydesdale (16) who scored 29 points. Mel scored one birdie, seven pars and four bogeys in his round; for a one over par gross score of 51 shots.

Third and fourth places shared the same score 28 points with positions decided on count back; Colin Marshall (15) was third and Kevin Stevens (09) fourth. Fifth place with 27 points and also on count back was Stephen Gilmore (09).

The day’s gross was very much a family affair with Jordan Patmore (01) scoring a one under par 49 to better his brother Lewis Patmore (05) by two shots. Jordan’s card was a mixed bag which included one eagle at the par five second, three birdies, four pars, three bogeys and a double bogey.

Birdie two’s where a rarity on Saturday only two were made, both at the third hole (ninth on score card) by Stephen Clarke and Martin McHugh.
