‘Good Feet’ March Hare competition gets underway at Rockmount GC

WITH the qualifying for Rockmount Golf Club’s 2012/2013 Andrew Annett Winter League match-play stages complete, it was time to start the new competition the ‘Good Feet’ March Hare.

Mark Andrews (13) scored 30 points for first place. Five players scored 29 points with positions decided on count back. Joseph Mikhael (11) was second, Peter Brown (8) was third, Nigel Canning (7) was fourth and Joe Forde (11) fifth. The best gross was a one over par 48 by Sam Gilmore (5). Sam had two birdies, seven pars and three bogeys on his card. The three best scores from the five Saturday’s in March will be collated together to decide the Good Feet’ March Hare winner.

The 2012/2013 Andrew Annett Winter League qualification for the match-play finals was completed on Friday. In league A, ‘Handcuffed to an Idiot’ top scored with 949; ‘Reece’s Wonders’ finished second on 928. In league B, ‘This is Madness’ had 954 and ‘Oggie and the Sprinkler Heads’ finished second with 940. In league C, ‘Life without Brian’ top scored on 944 and team ‘TBA’ had 930. In league D, ‘Shanksville Duffers’ 955 surpassed the one time runaway leaders ‘Frankly Awful’ 942. The quarter final draw sees ‘Handcuffed to an Idiot’ playing ‘Oggie and the Sprinkler Heads’; ‘This is Madness’ will play ‘TBA’; ‘Life without Brian’ will play ‘Frankly Awful’ and ‘Shanksville Duffers’ will play ‘Reece’s Wonders’. All matches are to be played by SundayMarch 10.

The Winter League singles competitions are also finished in the (0-13) section Paul Mearns top scored with 313 points; in (13.1-18.5) section, Competition Secretary Frank Wallace also scored 313 points for first place and in the (18.6-28) section Arthur Holywood with 301 points was top.

Rockmount Golf Club’s ‘Wednesday Club’ continued their long association with the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children, on Wednesday January 30 Jim Murphy and Francis Ward presented Natasha Ward with a cheque for funds raised by the ‘Wednesday Club’ in 2012. The total amount raised by Rockmount Golf Club’s ‘Wednesday Club’ and given to the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children now stands at a formidable £45,500.
