Great week for the Stables

IT was a great week for Stables as league action returned to the Craigavon District darts league sponsored by Bailie Amusements.

The Stables boys are starting to live up to their potential with an impressive victory over a strong Premier side. In a high quality match which had 29 ton plus scores including eight 140’s it was Brian McCavigan who got the Premier off to the perfect start with a 2-0 win over Neil McConville.

It was soon level when Gareth Bunting beat Niall Heaney 2-0. The Stables must have known it was going to be their night when Peter Morris had an impressive 2-0 win over the inform Dee Blaney and it was nice to see Michael Lamb’s hard work on the practice board paying off when he hit back to back 18 darters in a 2-0 win over John Cinnamond to make it 3-1 to the Stables. Simon Kendrick got his first win in the league with a 2-1 win over Dee McConville to keep the Premier hopes alive.

Captain Shane Tallon hit a 19 darter on his way to a 2-1 win over Mo Campbell despite going behind to Mo’s impressive bull finish to secure at least a point for the home team. All two points were claimed by the Stables when Hugh Campbell got the better of Terry Grimley 2-0. The last match of the night continued the high quality with nine ton plus scores over the three legs when Paul White beat Keith Beale 2-1 which included another 19 darter to give the Stables a 6-2 win and send out a warning to other teams that they will be competing on all fronts this season.

In what was probably the tie of the round visitors Eire Og took an early lead when team Captain Noel Dunwoodie beat Marty Craig 2-1 which included a 19 darter. As expected it was always going to be a tight match and when Drumgor’s Stevie Duff beat Mark McLernon 2-0 with 19 and 24 darts it was level.

Paul McGahan again give the visitors the lead with a 2-1 win over Pearse Richardson but Shane Lennon got the better of fellow county player Chris Cinnamond 2-0 with a 21 and a 24 darter. With the match now on a knife edge things were looking good for Eire Ogs when Hugh Heaney put them 3-2 up when he beat Joe Duff 2-1. But Drumgor showed why they are still the team to beat when Eamon Duff hit a 19 darter on way to his 2-1 win over Micky Dunwoodie and Paul Donnelly beat unbeaten Dermot McStay 2-0 which included an 18 darter.

It was down to 2009 NI Individual runner up Clive Hanna to take Drumgor to that all important fifth match win with a 2-0 win over Paul Callaghan in 20 and 21 darts to maintain Drumgor’s 100% start to the league season.
