HOCKEY: Parkview Ladies extend their unbeaten run

Parkview Ladies extended their unbeaten run with a scoreless draw against Instonians under the Shaw’s Bridge floodlights on Friday evening.

Stalemate in this Senior League Section 4 top of the table clash leaves Instonians at the summit, with the Doagh girls one point adrift.

Thanks to their industrious midfield trio – Nicola Singleton, Kerry Erskine and Emma Bothwell - Parkview were on the attack during the opening quarter, but seldom was the home goalie tested behind a well-drilled defence.

Erskine had one incisive right wing thrust, but her cross eluded Natalie Cahoon’s stick, while a run down the left by Singleton almost produced a score for Kathy Morrison.

From their only penalty corner of the first half Clare McClean connected with Erskine’s pass, but the ball was blocked on the line, while at the opposite end Maimie Graham pulled off a fine save to keep the scorecard blank at the break.

In the second session defences remained on top so that neither keeper was seriously tested, and the 0-0 draw sums up a drab game.

“We were disappointed at not being able to kill them off,” said Clare McClean. “We had the upper- hand for most of the time but were unable to turn possession in to goals. However the draw keeps us in second spot with our undefeated record intact after three games.”
