A successful short corner routine out the visitors a goal to the good at the break, and they added a second from a set-piece play early in the second session.

Carrick’s response came courtesy of their Player of the Match, Christine Waide, when she rattled home from a penalty corner.

The hosts fought back well, dominating the final quarter of the game and Waide could have secured a point in the final minute, only to be denied by a fantastic save from the impressive Service stopper.

Waide was Carrick’s star performer on the day, but keeper Rebecca Whiteside also had an excellent game.

The result saw Neil McConnell’s side drop one place to seventh in the Senior 2 table with their opposition leapfrogging them into sixth. They have just three wins and a draw from their 10 league outings ,but are a healthy eight points ahead of basement side, Greenisland.

Carrick are in action this weekend with a trip to Randalstown thirds in the opening round of the Qualifying Plate.

Elsewhere in Senior 2, table-topping Mossley Ladies continued their march towards the title, thanks to a 4-1 home win over Owls. Sophie McDowell was the star of the show for the Glade girls, scoring all four goals in the Friday night match.

In Senior 1, Leigh Snoddy and Diane Henry were on target for Larne in a 2-2 draw with Rainey Ladies, while Ballyclare failed to halt Banbridge’s charge towards the Premier League as they lost 5-0.

In the Senior 4 top of the table clash, a solitary strike by Natalie Cahoon shattered leaders Instonians’ unbeaten record and enhanced Parkview Ladies’ promotion prospects. The 1-0 win leaves Parkview second. They are five points adrift, but have two games in hand.
