‘I feel good!’ as James Brown snatches a win at Lisburn

James Brown played well below his 28 handicap to win the Saturday Stableford competition at Lisburn GC.

He was one of the leaders with 23 points after the front nine holes. The competition was played over 15 holes and another 12 points over the remaining six gave him a winning total of 35.

He had one point to spare over Tom Crawford (17) with five players finishing with 33 points: Mervyn Hewitt (18), Andrew Gibb (15), Trevor Doak (23), Ian Suffern (11) and Jonathan Grant (5). Ian had the best front nine with 22 points but could only manage 11 on the next six. Mervyn, Andrew and Trevor all scored 18 on the front nine and 15 on the next six. Mervyn’s eight points on the last three holes ensured third place.

Despite the inclement weather, 150 competitors took part in the competition. A heavy shower near lunch time made the course almost unplayable.

Sep Zwahlen hit the shot of the day when he holed his second shot for an eagle two at the 16th. Playing off a forward tee, Sep drove into a greenside bunker and then holed out from the sand. This helped him finish with 34 pts.
