Karting enthusiasts gear up for third round of championship

This Saturday the Northern Irish Karting Championship returns to the Nutts Corner Race Circuit for the third round of the series with both the Non-Gearbox Karts and Superkarts competing for valuable points in this year’s Championship.

In the last Round of the Non-Gearbox Championship at Kirkistown, 2013 Champion Douglas Reid took home victory in the first race of the day ahead of Daniel Conlon and Derek Wilson.

In race two, the top three remained the same but it was Derek Wilson who took home the first of his two victories ahead of Daniel Conlon, once again in second, and Douglas Reid in third.

In race three the podium was shaken up a bit with Daniel Conlon claiming top spot ahead of Jack McConnell in second and David Irvine in third. Derek Wilson claimed his second win of the day in the final race, beating Daniel Conlon who capped off a great days performance finishing in second or better in each of the four races, with Dean Gray rounding off the podium.

In the Mini Max class Daniel Harper finished the day with a perfect record winning all four races throughout the day. It was Jack McGaughey who also had a good day claiming second in three of the races and fourth in the final. Sam McDonnell finished third in all four races of the day in what was a good day’s performance with Jack Steenson claiming a second in the final race of the day.

In the World Formula both Paul Prentice and David Lilburn were evenly matched throughout the day with both men claiming two race victories in what was a very stacked field of drivers. Peter Crossen also had a good day at the office claiming three third place finishes and a fourth, Peter Caldwell also claimed some good points in the Championship by taking home a second, third and fourth on the day.

In the ever entertaining Cadet class, Shay Burns put in an impressive performance and claimed three victories as well as a second in the final race of the day which will certainly do his Championship hopes no harm.

It will be another entertaining day at the races with all of the classes on show and competing for points in the race for this year’s titles. Make your way to Nutts Corner on Saturday for what is sure to be yet another great days racing in this year’s Championship.
