Lambeg finish top of the Pierce Purcell qualifying round

Lambeg Golf Club hosted the qualifying round of the Pierce Purcell on Sunday.

Although the weather was pretty dismal in the morning it did improve as the day went on.

Credit must be given to Lisburn Castlereagh City Council and their green keeping staff for the state of the course which was magnificent.

The host club is normally expected to qualify from the 13 clubs entered, but once again Lambeg have punched well above their weight by not only qualifying, but finishing in the top spot with 320 points.

Malone also finished with 320 but were pushed into second on the count-back.

Dunmurry finished 3rd and Down Royal finished fourth.

Lambeg will play Down Royal and Malone will play Dunmurry. in the next round.

Jimmy Bruen

Lambeg Golf Club have a good record in this competition, so it was no surprise when they qualified once again in second place.

This was a fine performance by Craig Tiffen and his men against very strong opposition.

Ulster Cup

Lambeg travelled to Cairndu with a 2-3 score and had a real uphill battle and although they put up a powerful fight they eventually conceded, going 3-1 down.

Irish 4 Ball

Lambeg were hosts to a very strong Ballymena team but came through as 3-2 winners, David Thompson and Mervyn Whyte won 4-3,

Andre Smyth and Chris Johnston won 5-3 and Derek Porter with Graham Steele winning 2 and 1.

The return match is at Ballymena G.C. next Sunday.

Lambeg Golf Shop Stroke Play competition was won by Stephen Thornhill with 58 net.
