Larne AC’s Baxter wins ladies’ race at Kilbride 10k event

Larne Athletic Club’s Heather Baxter achieved her first race win on Saturday when she took the honours in the ladies’ race at the Kilbride 10k.

Held as a fundraiser for the local Boys’ Brigade, the race offered a hilly course from Kilbride Church but Baxter (pictured below) began steadily, moving through as runners left the riverside walk in Burnside and climbed from the village. She crossed the line as first lady in a time of 48:13.

Andy Gregg, competing on the roads he regularly uses in training, finished third overall in a time of 39.39.

The ever popular Laganside 10k took place on Sunday Larne’s James Brown finished 19th overall in 34.50. Bernard Brady was next to finish in 37.03, followed by Billy Thompson (37.53).

The next three Larne AC runners broke the 40-minute barrier: Brian Heron ran 38.17, Martan Keane 39.18, and Thomas Craig a personal best 39.49.

Young David Murphy completed the race in 41.02, followed by Emmett Woods 42.14, and Bobby Boal 42:15 (PB).

First female over the line for Larne was the fast-paced Patricia Blair in an excellent time of 43.33.

John Wright ran 46.59, followed by second female for the club, Juliane Keane who smiled her way to the finish line in a time of 47.07 (PB). Janine Rainey was the third female home for LAC in 48:48 (PB). Gillian Logan recorded a personal best 49.47, while Julie Allen timed 51.33.

Steven Reid finished next (52.49) narrowly ahead of Stephen McManus (52.49). Robin Alexander crossed the line in a time of 54.44 (PB). Kerri-Anne Kearney ran 55.30, followed by Emily Boal in 56.26 (PB).

Rory McGregor completed the race in 57.50 (PB) and next to come into view was Andrene Rennie in a time of 58.53. Joanne McNeill finished in 101.47, followed home by Norma Johnston 102.12. Cathy Baston took an impressive six minutes off her personal best time, recording 105.45.

Brommely Finn ran 110.46 pipping dad, Eddie, who timed 110.47.

Four young athletes from Larne took part in the Rossi One Mile Children’s Fun Run before the 10k.

Jack Hastings (7.15), Katie Allen (8.09), Rebekah Hastings (8.28, and Isla Allen (8.50) ran very well.
