Larne knocked off top spot after Coleraine defeat

Saturday’s wet conditions weren’t conducive for a fast-paced game at Glynn where Larne fell to a 16-0 defeat at the hands of Coleraine.

The result saw Larne knocked off top spot in Qualifying Two by Carrick who defeated Donaghadee.

A bit of indiscipline in the early stages allowed the Coleraine men to take an early lead. The penalty count crept up and up, but the Larne defence stood firm.

Gibson received a yellow card for a late tackle after Larne started to assert some pressure on the Coleraine line, allowing them an easy out.

With Larne down a man in the scrum the visitors began to dominate this area of the game. Again, the home defence stood firm and prevented any tries. Half time: 0– 6.

In the second half Larne weren’t getting the rub of the green and the ball was chipped over the top, evading Jordan Burns for an easy run-in for Coleraine’s 13.

Larne’s frustration started to show and this lifted their intensity at the contact area as they knocked Coleraine men back in the tackle.

They started to win more ball, but they could not seem to string together any phase play as the backs lost possession in wide areas on a number of occassions.

Coleraine slotted over another penalty to secure the victory and bring an end to a poor day all round at the Glynn.

Larne face a trip to Enniskillen this weekend.
