Larne men sweep Letterkenny aside to reach Cup final

The Glynn men, who are only one win away from promotion and boast the only 100 per cent record in Qualifying 3, delivered a barnstorming display in front of a big home crowd on Saturday.

Ryan Garrett’s charges kicked off in confident fashion, determined to show just how intent they are to get their hands on the trophy for the second successive year. The visitors were hit by a bombardment in the opening quarter and by half-time the game was all but over as a contest.

Ryan McAllister, playing his best rugby for the club, was to the fore scoring three tries from the back row.

Scott Montgomery, who wasn’t originally selected, was drafted in as a late replacement for the injured Gary Mills, and he chipped in with a brace.

Jordan Burns, Garrett, Phil Andrews, Stevie McReynolds, Matt Agnew and the returning Craig Gibson all scored.

Amazingly, every try was converted by Andrews who has been invaluable with his accuracy off the tee this season. He notched 11 conversions, some of which were from way out, showcasing his ability.

The set-piece was much more secure, especially the line-out where Craig Gibson was finding his jumpers really well and his return is a massive boost with two vital league games and a final to play.

Eddie Hunter was to the fore in the pack with Stevie McReynolds also back to his best having just returned after a long lay-off.

Coach Davy Wilson told the Times: “There is real competition for places for the final run-in and the club is fortunate to have much more depth than previous seasons which augurs well for the future.

“The Seconds are fifth having been promoted to Junior 1, which is extremely competitive, while the Thirds will finish a brilliant second to Malone in Minor 1. “With a rejuvenated youth section under Gary MacFarland’s management, and a really thriving mini section, there is much optimism as the club looks to the future.”
