League officials to rename trophy as special tribute

Magill first joined the league in the late 1970s with Woodville before spending almost three decades at North Street-based INF.

“He played a key role in bringing numerous league and cup titles to the club,” said a league spokesman. “He was also runner-up on five occasions in the League Individuals.

“He teamed up with some of the town’s top throwers and his partnership with best friend and brother-in-law Seamus Tallon produced five consecutive League Pairs prizes.

“Everyone connected to the league would like to offer condolences to the Magill family circle and friends.

“Paddy was an inspiration and we have decided to rename the League Individuals trophy as the Paddy Magill Memorial Cup in tribute.”

The Craigavon District Darts League programme finished with play in the Captains’ Shield at The Trojans.

Over £1,000 had been raised during previous charity events, with £523 generated on the night in aid of The Multiple Sclerosis charity.

Celtic captain Gerard Crewe - with help from Roger Haire, Paul Lewis, Pearse Richardson and Terry Morrow - picked up the main prize with a 4-2 defeat of Dee McCready plus Niall Heaney, Eamon Duff and Davy Vaughan senior.

The league presentation night will run on Saturday in The Clann Eireann Club.
