Letterkenny cause a big surprise

NEWLY promoted Letterkenny took a major scalp in their opening Senior League game on Saturday as they beat Dunluce by five shots to pick up six points after winning three of the four rinks.

In a closely fought game C Mabin beat Mervyn McKeeman by three shots. J Quinn saw off Rodney Kane by eight and J Marshall added another win to the total with a five-shot victory over Barry Kane.

Uel McKeeman spared the blushes of the cup holders as he saved the whitewash with an 11-shot win over I Jacob.

Portglenone also picked up six points as they travelled and beat Brooke Park by eight shots.

Eamon McCann got the ball rolling with a 10-shot win over J Doherty. Former Brookgreen player Joe Morre grabbed another win as he saw off Jimmy Cuthbert by seven before Chris Jones ensured his side got the bonus points as he beat Jimmy Hagan by five shots.

NIPBA President Mickey Fahy salvaged a point for the hosts with an excellent 14-shot win over R Hunter.

Elsewhere City of Derry slipped to an 18-shot defeat at home to Cookstown.
