Lisnagarvey Seconds are in the hunt for the double in Junior League Cup

Lisnagarvey Seconds secured the Junior League 1 a few weeks ago but now they are on the trail of the double.

The newly introduced competition, the Junior League Cup is now well within their grasp remaining unbeaten in their group. Last week end they completed a match which counted for both League and Cup competitions.

The opposition was North Down and they were easy winners by 5 goals to nil at Comber Road. The scorers were John Gray (2), Ian Davidson, Ryan Getty and Julian Stevenson.

This followed a heavy defeat of North Down the previous Saturday at Comber. On that occasion, the score was 9-0.

Seconds skipper Phil Stirling slotted two goals to take his season’s total to an impressive 37. James Dowling added a hat trick.

The other scorers were Matthew Nelson, Ross Kelly and Andrew O’Hare also with two strikes.

This Saturday they play their last game in their group with a visit to Cookstown and with their present free scoring form should manage another win to secure a place in the final against the winner of the other Junior 1 group.

There is good news for Garvey’s other junior teams. The Thirds captained by Richard McConkey maintained their place in Junior 1 with a strong finish to the season as did the 4ths under Callum Atkinson in Junior 2.

Garvey Fifths ended in third place in Junior 3 without a permanent captain while the Sixths led by the very enthusiastic Peter Watson are still finishing their fixtures and have a good chance of leading the race for Junior 6 honours.
