MARATHON: Foyle Hospice want Walled City Marathon runners

Foyle Hospice are appealing to local people to join Hospice Team 26.2 and sign up for this year's Walled City Marathon.

Foyle Hospice have just been unveiled as the official ‘charity partner’ for this year’s Walled City Marathon.

The event, which takes place on Sunday, June 5, is now in its fourth year.

Ciaran McGinley, Head of Fundraising at the Foyle Hospice, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the official charity partner for this year’s Walled City Marathon.”

The Fundraising Team at the Hospice are currently looking to recruit runners to join Team 26.2 where members will receive guaranteed entry into the event and a Hospice branded running vest to wear on the day.

There will also be exclusive entry to the Hospice marquee in the finish area where there will be welcoming refreshments and a light postrace massage.

For those who have already secured entry to the run, please consider raising some sponsorship for Foyle Hospice.

Meanwhile the NI cross country League was incorporated into the senior races at the Antrim meet and saw the Foyle Valley male and female squads continue their push for the title in the nine race competition.

Chris McGuinness in 26th led the Foyle boys home and the provisional team results show them taking second behind a strong Newcastle AC and thus extending their lead at the top of the League table with two scoring races remaining.

Conan McCaughey was a good 20th and the Spartans Allan Bogle 25th, to further highlight the local interest. The Foyle females were led home by Martina McMullan in 28th and in 30th a terrific run from F50 Grainne Neill. The third place finish and participation points won by Foyle should see them move ahead of Acorns to once again top the table.
