Maxwell and McIlroy perform well in Stranraer

Twenty-five runners from Larne AC made the short crossing to Stranraer recently for the town’s annual half-marathon.

Justin Maxwell enjoyed a fantastic run, finishing in second place in a time of 1:16 while team-mate James McIlroy was also in the places coming third in a time of 1:18:01.

Bernard Brady came fourth overall and was first home in the V50 age group (1:20:33), with Billy Thompson finishing in second place.

Paul Heron and Paul Tilson were first and second in V40 age group and John Agnew, running his first half marathon in several years, was also in the prizes finishing 1st in the V50 age group.

Geraldine Quigley had another great run finishing 4th overall & 1st in the FV35 category in a time of 1:33:37.

Jayne Liddle had the run of the day when she smashed her personal best to claim first place in the FV40 age group in 1:47:59. Ruth Wilson and Rhonda Montgomery both had strong performances and finished second and third, respectively in the FV40 category. The remaining runners, who all put in great performances, were: Andy Guy, James Brown, Paul Gaskell, Greg Lavery, Brian Heron, Nigel Kane, Ian Brennan, Trevor Gardiner, Rhonda Brady, Heather Baxter, Elaine Hall, Gillian Logan, Tracey Blair and Diane Topping.

Thirteen Larne AC competitors took part in the Ballymena 5-mile Road Race with Nat Glenn finishing first in the M45 category in a time of 27:49.

Bernard Brady came third in the same category in a time of 29:11. Greg Lavery was next home for the club finishing in 30:58 with Paul Tilson next home (32:35). Geraldine Quigley had another strong run and claimed second female in a time of 33:51.

Young Michael McCann continued his recent good form finishing in 34:52.

Kirsty Sharratt was next female home in 36:44 and John McCann ducked under the 40-minute mark with a time of 39:16.

Rhonda Brady and Heather Baxter were delighted with their second-place finishes in the FV35 and FV40 categories. Rhonda came close to a personal best with a time of 39:30 with Heather just a couple of minutes behind in 41:13.

Rhonda Wallace had a time of 43:09 while Bernie Regan returned to racing after a long spell out and put in a strong performance recording a time of 43:34. Rhonda Adamson completed the Larne contingent with a time of 46:54.
