McMahon cup finals this weekend

CLANN Éireann will host the Pat McMahon Competition finals this weekend.

The McMahon Shield which has thrown up a local derby final between rivals Wolfe Tones and Sarsfields has a 1.30pm start time, followed by the McMahon Cup final in which Tr na ng will face Maghery at 3pm.

Of the four participants, only the Sarsfields club are still involved in any meaningful competitive action, so both games should be keenly contested.

Tr na ng may use the McMahon final to give an end of season run out to some of their Minor players who failed narrowly to win last Sunday’s All-County Championship decider to Shane O’Neill’s.

Their opponents Maghery, who had a great Division One campaign, will have both Aidan and Stefan Forker available for the game. The pair missed their club’s SFC defeat to Cullyhanna through suspension.

Sarsfields manager Patsy Donnelly will see this Sunday’s game against Wolfe Tones as ideal preparation for his team’s Ulster Intermediate opener on Sunday week. Wolfe Tones, for their part, will be looking to finish their season on a high and Sunday’s test against their near neighbours could bring out the best in the Derrymacash.
