The memorial event is scheduled in tribute to two former players - Marie Hoye and Caitriona McKeag.

“Marie was an extraordinary person who established Clann Eireann ladies’ football and her enthusiasm for the game at club and county level knew no bounds,” said a club spokesperson. “Marie lost her long-term battle with cancer at the age of 46.

“Caitriona was an exceptional young footballer who represented her club and county.

“She died at the young age of 16 due to meningitis.

“Her exceptional talent was first recognised by Marie and it is fitting that her shield is part of this tournament.

“Our club lost both within the space of six months and, devastating as it was, we move on and honour each person’s memory with this great tournament.”

Funds will go towards Southern Area Hospice this season and the winning team will collect sports vouchers up to £250 thanks to sponsorship support from Murphy’s Law Irish Pub, USA.

Club officials would like to thank the various other sponsors for such loyal backing.
