Montgomery claims Ace Fixings Medal success at Galgorm Castle

Golfers had to contend with pesistent rain and wind as they competed for the Ace Fixings medal at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

At halfway Robert Young (13) and peter Houston (8) were a shot ahead of Michael Montgomery (18), Sean McCormick (6) and Mervyn Foster (7). Adrian McCart (9) and Michael Brown (8) were a further one and two shots respectively behind.

Through The Maple Montgomery had moved up to lead by one shot from Young and Houston with McCart and Foster another shot back. McCormick and Brown were a further shot away. Up the Grove and with two to play Young had regained the lead by one shot from Montgomery.

In a close finish Young came home bogey, par and was joined by Montgomery with a bogey, par and with a better back nine M.Montgomery was the Overall Winner with Young taking the Overall Runner-Up placing. McCormick with a birdie at the Lowlands and a par at the last finished two shots behind to win Division 1. A shot behind McCormick in second place came Peter Houston with a two bogey finish. A further shot behind the placings came Brown (two pars), Foster (par, bogey) who won the Seniors and McCart (par, double bogey). The Gross was won by Paul Houston (4).

In Division 2 at halfway Jonathan McCart (12) and Luis Surgenor (12) were leading by one shot from David Brown (15) and Terence Martin (16). Another two shots behind came Alistair McKervill (15). Approaching fourteen Surgenor was one shot ahead of McCart followed by Brown and Martin another shot behind. McKervill was a further shot down. With two to play Surgenor and McCart were level, one shot in front of Brown and McKervill with Martin a further shot behind. McCart (double bogey, birdie) and Surgenor (par, bogey) finished together ande with a better back one first place went to J.McCart. Surgenor finished in second place. One shot behind came Brown (two bogeys) two shots ahead of McKervill who ran into bogey trouble and Martin.

At the turn in Division 3 there was a two way tie between James McKay (26) and Marcus Dundee (18) two shots ahead of Trevor Fletcher (17). After thirteen McKay was leading by one shot from Fletcher and Dundee. Fletcher came to the fore through sixteen with a double bogey enabling him to take a one shot advantage over McKay and Dundee when both players ran into trouble up the Grove. Fletcher held on to his one shot lead over the closing two holes with two bogeys to win from McKay (bogey, double bogey).

SUBSIDIARY STABLEFORD

Graham Michael (19) held a one point advantage over Malachy Graham (24) after the front nine. Play was pretty even throughout with Graham trying to draw level with Michael. Eventually Graham joined Michael at the Grove when the latter failed to score. Graham moved into a one point lead when both players bogeyed the Lowlands. Graham finished with another bogey to win by two points with Michael second.
