In race one, a problem with the front forks of his Heads and All Threads Suzuki meant he could only claim sixth spot.

“I was right up there early on when the forks broke on the second or third lap. They went rock hard and although I brought it home in sixth, I was exhausted by the finish,” he said.

In race two, an excursion off the track saw him claw his way back to finish fifth. “I was in second place before the off at the big berm and when I rejoined the track I was sixth.

“We had changed the set up for the race and the bike was good but I lost so much time it was really frustrating.

“Sometimes you expect to do better and this was one of those times. I am now focusing on Lyng for round two of the British. Let’s hope the mechanical issues are well behind us.”
