Reid has now ammassed 108 points - 37 ahead of his nearest rival James Lodge.

“I pushed hard at the start to try and pull a good gap but then I started making a few little mistakes,” said the FFX Yamaha rider. “I told myself to calm down, it’s a long race, take the pace back a bit, and preserve the tyres.”

He added: “I also had problems with front brake fade in the closing stages of the race but I am on top again and have extended my lead in the championship.”

Carrick’s Andrew Irwin on the MWR Kawasaki had his best result of the year when he finished fifth.

“It is my best result so far this year,” he said. “It was a good, solid finish and something to build on for the rest of the season.

“In the end, I was only eight seconds off the winner so I’m heading in the right direction.”
