New date and venue for clash of the Clanns

THE meeting of Division One side’s Clan na Gael and Clann Éireann will now take place at Clann Éireann Park on Thursday April 5.

The original date and venue was Sunday April 1 at Davitt Park.

The new date for the local derby was made with the agreement of both clubs according to Clann Éireann manager James Byrne:

“Some of the Clan na Gael boys are away over the first weekend of the season and with Davitt Park unavailable at the moment, both clubs thought it would be sensible to re fix the game for Thursday April 5.”

Wolfe Tones, Clan na Gael, Sarsfields, and Clann Éireann will all play in the top flight this season and could get the chance to play each other on two occasions in the second half of the season, after the three divisions split into two sections.

Former Armagh Hurler Chris McAlinden was one of the Lake Street side’s best player’s last season but is currently out of the country, so he will miss out. While Steven McAreavey has stepped down from senior football and Michael Shanks is understood to have transferred to St Paul’s.

As far as Clan na Gael are concerned, new team manager Kevin O’Hagan and his assistant John Campbell will bring a wealth of experience to the Francis Street set up. Both men have won Senior Championship medals with the blues.
