Newbridge

THE seniors and reserves made the journey to Lissan on Sunday for the second game of the league. The seniors were aiming to banish their disappointing opening day defeat however they got off to an awful start as Lissan raced into a 7 point lead with only 15 minutes played and this could have been worse but for a superb point blank save from Steven Martin.

It took the Bridge until the 25th minute to register their first score via Sean Patrick McCann and this was followed with an excellent point from the outside of Peter McGrogans boot. Lissan replied soon after but Ciaran Dougan got the last score of the half to leave the score Newbridge 0-03 Lissan 0-08. The second half saw the Bridge start much brighter with points from Danny Mulholland and Kevin Sweeney to help reduce the deficit to 3.

In the 36th minute a Danny Mulholland free dropped short but Sean Patrick McCann managed to dispossess the Lissan defender and pull on the ball to roll it to the back of the net to tie the game. Danny Mulholland sandwiched 2 Lissan points in the 39th minute and Paddy McGuigan levelled the game in the 47th minute after previously having a legitimate point signalled as wide by the home teams umpire.

The Bridge went into the lead for the first time in the 48th minute courtesy of Mulholland and Peter McGrogan increased the lead soon after. In the 52nd minute the Bridge enjoyed a slice of luck as a Ciaran Dougan shot rebounded off both posts before falling nicely to Sean Patrick McCann who drilled the ball to the back of the net for his second of the game. Michael O’Neill pulled off a 1 on 1 save in the dying minutes of the game to ensure the game finished Newbridge 2-09 Lissan 0-10.

Newbridge scorers were SP McCann (2-01), D Mulholland (0-03), P McGrogan (0-02), K Sweeney, C Dougan and P McGuigan (0-01 each).

The reserves also enjoyed victory as they dominated their game from start to finish to win on a scoreline of Newbridge 2-07 Lissan 1-03. Newbridge scorers were Carlo (1-02), P Walls (1-00), P Donnelly, R Carron, M Murphy, F Shivers & K McCann (0-01 each).
