Members also discussed the cost of powdered milk for patients’ meals which was said to increase the catering bill by £540 annually.

The tender had already been considered by the management’s finance sub-committee.

Members were told that there had been “no collusion” between milk wholesale providers.

Meanwhile, a colourful new mural was unveiled in the Moyle Hospital’s children’s ward by Lady Antrim.

The mural depicted a girl playing with a doll and a cowboy.

Matron Miss M McCollough said that “no harsh symbols” had been used.

She noted that children were invited to bring a soft toy into hospital and many of those had been included in the picture.

She pointed out that despite the Welfare State, there were still those who were will ing to do voluntary work.
