Councillors criticise Carrick Leisure Centre promotion

Local councillors were criticising the way in which Carrick Leisure Centre was being promoted in the run-up to Christmas in 1980.

Cllr Robert Hunter said: “We are sitting with a building capable of housing good family entertainment other than sport and we are not making use of it. I’ve been asking for proper promotion for over a year and still I have not received a satisfactory answer.”

Cllr Stewart Dickson said he wondered what the staff and particularly the promotions officers were doing. He said: “If you look at Newtownabbey Leisure Centre, you will see all types of facilities being used. But apart from a few international sports matches there has been nothing at Carrick.”

A report was to be presented at the next meeting.
