Do you remember when . . . Sicilian wine was bottled at Point Street

A Sicilian wine producer established a business at Point Street in Larne in August, 1965.

A bottling plant was to be established to enable distribution in Northern Ireland.

At the time of a report in the Larne Times, the Etna brand was being shipped in 60-gallon casks to London and Scotland by owners Pasquale Corligiano and Goffredo Manza, who were also restaurant proprietors in Belfast and Dublin.

Chemist Nicole Alagna, who was responsible for blending the wine, was staying in Antiville.

The casks and barrels were produced from Burda wood, imported from Sicily.

Mr. Alagna said: “I like Ireland, but the weather...”

Enough said.
