Vandalism fears in Carrick estate

There were fears that there would be an increase in vandalism in the Sunnylands estate in November 1985.

Jim Strange, chairman of the local tenants’ association in the estate said that vandalism and crime may increase unless the police re-opened their police sub-station in the estate following a number of incidents in the area,

Mr Strange said: “The sub-station was open regularly during the day until about six months ago. Now, it is open very irregularly for a couple of hours in the evening.

“Everyone is most concerned about the rundown of the sub-station. It is needed. People in Sunnylands did use it and its presence in the estate was a deterrent to crime and vandalism. Incidents may increase if it is not open on a more regular basis.”
