All the local teams have matches on the opening day and the bowls column will keep you up to date with the nine teams involved throughout the season.

Lisnagarvey

The A team travel to Balmoral, who just avoided relegation last year from NIBA Division 1, but it will be a tough test for Garvey all the same.

Lisnagarvey B were relegated last season and return to NIBA Division 4, where they start with a home game against Lurgan B.

Dromore

The A team have the worst possible start in NIBA Division 1, away to champions, Whitehead after gaining promotion last year.

The B team are still in NIBA Division 5 and may be hopeful of success at home to Queen’s Island.

Lagan Valley

They retained their place in NIBA Division 5 last year and will hope to get off to a winning start at home to Ballynfeigh.

Finaghy

NIBA Division 4 was very unpredictable last year so Finaghy would be pleased with a winning start at home to North Down.

Hilden

Hilden had to battle for survival in Private Greens Division 2 last year and they will have to battle on opening day away to Ballywalter.

The B team face some difficult games in Private Greens Division 5, but they could start with a win at home to Belmont D.

Malone

Malone struggled in Private Greens Division 4 last season and they will not have an easy task when they start at home to Falls B.

Eglantine ask for early start

Eglantine Indoor Bowling Club’s Summer Tournaments start on Wednesday, May 4 and they hope to see the regulars back again along with a few new faces.

They are making an appeal to all who plan to attend. Come along early to help them get started at 7.30pm each evening.

If everyone is there before the start it allows play to commence on time.
