Thirty riders turned up to compete in conditions that were cold but pretty good for a TT.

It was no surprise that Paul (Wilkie ) was the fastest on the night with a 23, this after a very tough weekends racing.

Making his first start for a while now, Paul (Mackers ) has shown what a superb TT rider he is with another 23 on this course but one of the biggest talking points of the night was a relatively new rider into the Wheelers also recording his first 23.Dave Frizzel has come on leaps and bounds and the club believe he will go on this year to record quite a few PBs.

Another new rider this year is Brandon Douglas and what a performance he had with a 24, which is fantastic.

Brandon has shown what a superb rider he is and going to be. He went two days later to the Warrenpoint Rd and recorded a 22 min ride for a 10 TT and make no mistake for a rider who only took up the sport last year this is breathtaking stuff.

Other riders who deserve a mention are Thomas Niblock in only his 2nd TT he just missed out for a 24 which is incredible. As well as Paul they also had Will and Geoff making a welcome return to racing and the club were delighted to see them back and both rode really well.

Big John is quietly slipping up the leader board when he to just missed out on a 24.

Ian Weir like Thomas riding an ordinary road bike can be happy with his performance he too had a 25 and will get quicker.

Andy Hodgen is another rider moving up the board nicely.

Spare a thought for injured rider Matt as he bravely rode and recorded a 25 which was a fine effort.

Another new rider and making his debut was Scott Steenson.

Unfortunately for Scott he didn’t have the benefit of a winters training so he like Sammy is playing catch up.

This has been an excellent start for the Wheelers this year not only their new riders performances in the opening TTS but their looking at how they can improve and that’s what the club want to hear from them.

Last weekend Paul Wilkinson had a fantastic result in his A1 Race in the Bann Valley Classic Clady. His sixth place was as good as you will get.

Paul got into a break at the start and stayed away the whole race shows the confidence he now has.

Would all members please note there will be a meeting in the Albert in the next week or two to plan for the West Down Wheelers GP held at Katesbridge, check Facebook.
