Popular Ulster Cyclo-Cross race comes to Moira Demesne again

Lisburn City Council is proud to announce that on Sunday November 3, Moira Demesne will play host to Round 5 of the Ulster Cyclo-Cross series, organised by Dromara Cycling Club.

Speaking at the launch Chairman of Lisburn City Council’s Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter said: “The Council is delighted to welcome the Ulster Cyclo-Cross series once again to the beautiful surroundings of Moira Demesne.

“This is the third year the venue will be used for this style of off-road racing. Lisburn hosts a great diversity of sporting events across the city and throughout the year. This winter sport appeals to a wide variety of cyclists and with events like this in our sporting calendar it is very clear why Lisburn was awarded ‘European City of Sport’ for 2013.”

Chairman of Lisburn City Council’s Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Jenny Palmer, said: “Moira Demesne is one of the most beautiful parks in the Council area and it is great to see it being used for a variety of purposes. It provides a challenging course for the cyclists and also great for spectators who can come along and observe the skills of the participants.”

Speaking about the event, Martin Grimley from Dromara Cycling Club, said: “The Cycling Club is expecting another great turn out for the 5th Round of the Ulster Cyclo-Cross series in Moira. There will be over 50 youth riders (from the Under 6s up to the Under 16s) and around 100 seniors taking part. The races start at 10:30am with the Under 6s fun race. This will be a one lap race where parents run behind the riders providing lots of encouragement.

“There are separate races for the Under 8s, 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s as well as a mountain bike support race for the over 16s. The main event will be the cyclo-cross race which starts at 1.00pm. It will be a packed day of racing and we would encourage anyone with an interest in cycling to come along.”
