Pupils excel once more at Coleraine High School annual sports day

By the time sports day had come around this year all the talk was about the weather.

According to the weather men we were SIX weeks behind our ‘normal’ seasonal temperatures. In spite of this the Coleraine High School pupils – who had to endure some atrocious training conditions this season - pulled out all the stops to record some excellent performances on the day.

Hannah Crompton was the outstanding athlete in Year 8, winning the 100m, the Long Jump and the High Jump. She was crowned Year 8 Champion.

Amy McAuley-Hutchinson and Aurora Watson shared the Year 9 section, both girls finishing in the top three in their respective events.

Courtney-Lee Clarke won the Ewing Cup for throwing having excelled in the shot and the discus.

The Year 10 was a very competitive group with Katie McHenry - ‘the dark horse of the day’ - doing exceptionally well to win both the Hurdles and the High Jump events.

However the very promising Sarah Holden won three events to secure the overall Championship in this age-group.

Other outstanding athletes worthy of mention in Year 10 include Rosanna Johnston, Emma Creelman and Koren Ferguson who all received medals in their events.

Following the formal sports, the fun sports took place in the afternoon with inter-class football, volleyball, tug of war, obstacle races and potted sports. This was very enjoyable and allowed those who did not compete in the morning to ‘have a go’

A very successful day was had by all. A big thank-you to all the staff who helped out during the day in a variety of roles ensuring that this day was a success.
