Rankin’s wins ‘Out the Line’

WHAT a season it has been for Foyle Valley’s Scott Rankin and Pius McIntyre.

Following on from their recent one-two success in the Furey 5k series, Scott and Pius again grabbed the top two spots in the first race of the inaugural ‘Out the Line’ series sponsored by LO-LO-ALC.

Hot on their heels, came third placed Chris McGuinness also from Foyle Valley AC. First female home was Catherine Lilburn of City of Derry, with Miriam Bridge of City of Derry next female finisher.

An exciting and lovely feature of this 3k race was the number of joggers/fun runners taking part, including a sizeable entry from from the Old Library Trust.

These (B) OLT runners have only begun running recently ably supported by Rosie O’Brien, Sean Hargan and Eddie McCallion. They hope to complete all three legs of the inaugural ‘Out the Line’ series and are aiming to complete the Waterside Half Marathon in September.

Next race in the LO-LO-ALC sponsored ‘Out the Line’ series, a 5k, takes place this Saturday, again starting at 11am with registration in Long Tower Youth and Community Centre from 10am.

The final race of the series – a 5 miler - takes place, again out the line on Saturday August 11, commencing at 11am.

Chairperson of Foyle Valley AC, Cathal McLaughlin expressed his delight with the numbers participating in this first run.

“This has been a great start for our ‘Out the Line’ series. Nearly 70 runners registered to race and jog this relatively unusual distance of three kilometers. We anticipate even more this Saturday for the more traditional 5k race.

“The five miler the following Saturday (11th August) will serve as a good platform especially for new-ish runners who have an eye to take on the Waterside Half Marathon. Great to see the bolt crew running too and in such numbers.”

Finally, Cathal had a word of praise for the sponsors LO LO ALC: “We are really pleased to harness the financial support of LO LO ALC, their sponsorship makes it so much easier to organise a three legged event like this.”
