Refurbishment for Portrush Yacht Club

PORTRUSH Yacht Club has been given the green light to start an extensive refurbishment programme.

Funding for the development was provided by the Northern Ireland Executive, delivered through the Department for Social development.

Building work started earlier this month and is due to be completed by April 2014, just in time for the summer season. The club was first built in 1986.

Brian Page, Hon Secretary of the Yacht Club, said: “This has been the culmination of five years of hard work by our committee. We were conscious that we wanted to the refurbishment to blend the club into the Harbour area of Portrush which offers so much to members and visitors alike, and enhance the facilities that are already on offer within the club.”

Supporting the exciting development the Mayor of Coleraine, councillor David Harding, said: “Coleraine Borough Council is delighted to see this project progress into the construction phase.  

WIt will provide a great enhancement to the excellent service that this great Yacht Club already provides to the town of Portrush. Residents and visitors all stand to benefit from this ambitious work”.

Commodore Robin Cardwell, added: “We are very excited about this project and are asking all our members to get on board with the new plans. Members have already been helping to pack equipment away for safe keeping, as this refurbishment will impact on all areas. The bar will stay open during the programme.”

The committee would like to thank the architects , Montgomery Irwin, Coleraine, and building contractors P&K McKaigue, Brian Canavan Associates,IDM Mechanical Services, G. Nevin Electrical Contractor and engineers Ivan Scott and Associates.
