The Rossmar pupils were star-struck by the former Northern Ireland international, who was signed for Manchester United by Sir Alex Ferguson in 1988.

Rossmar teacher Sean Deeney was in Omagh for the Regional Games on Thursday (April 24). He said: “Everyone here at the school are delighted that the team won the cup.

“It was a fantastic performance from everyone and they thoroughly deserved their victory.

“They were all very lucky to be able to meet someone such as Malachy Donaghy, someone who has played in a World Cup.

“He is a very affable, nice man and he has a genuine interest in children with disabilities so it was a great experience for the Rossmar team.

“It is amazing that they were able to get the opportunity and the victory makes it even better.”

Alan Crooks, development manager for disability football with the IFA, said: “Congratulations to Rossmar on their first ever victory in the IFA Regional Games in Omagh on Thursday.

“It is basically a competition for the schools in the Western Education and Library Board area that cater to children with moderate disabilities.

“The IFA are involved in delivering participation and competitive opportunities for everyone and that is our role in this particular competition.

Mr Crooks also paid tribute to his colleague

“Mal Donaghy is a disability football development officer in Northern Ireland with the IFA.

“He is brilliant at what he does and obviously he is coming with the pedigree and the experience and so much knowledge.

“He has an excellent personality for the role and the IFA are lucky to have him.”
