Ryan runs riot as Bann cruise past Newry and into the semi-finals

Clann na Banna Reserves progressed to the semi-final of the Felix Derby Cup with an emphatic win at Newry Bosco.

Bann completely dominated the first half with Mark Loughlin and Gary McGrath on top in midfield and Gary Queen and Paddy Gillen pulling the strings in a lively forward line.

Two goals from Chris Ryan and a third from Conor Lenaghan helped Bann to a thirteen point lead at half time. The points came from Sean Lenaghan (2), Paddy Gillen (2) Gary Quinn, Darren McAlinden and Ruairi Gillen who converted a 45. Bosco could only manage three points in reply against a hard-working Bann defence in which Sean McGarry and minors Michael Mallon and Philip O’Keefe stood out.

A point and a goal in quick succession from Paddy Gillen at the start of the second half ended any hope of a Bosco revival.

The home side tried to the end and managed a goal and four points but further points from Sean Lenaghan, Paddy Gillen, Gary McGrath and substitute Shane Campbell sealed the win. There was a welcome return to Bann colours for Sean Connolly in the second half with fine performances from Darren Brooker and Mattie Mallon.
