Seconds are beaten in cup semi-final

LURGAN Seconds picked the wrong game to lose their first match of the season.

They were narrowly beaten by nine runs in the semi-final of the Intermediate cup on Saturday by Derriaghy.

Derriaghy batted first and were bowled out for 207 in the 43rd over, a total that included 53 extras, 34 of which were wides.

Andrew Bingham took four wickets for 50 runs off nine overs and Oliver McCollum two for 36 off eight.

McShane led the run chase for Lurgan hitting 65 and he was well supported by Jonny Dowds (23) and Jack Harrison (15).

A last wicket partnership between Alan Johnston and Garry Archer seemed to be taking the visitors to victory.

However when that partnership reached 33, Alan Johnston was given out lbw for 32, a decision that seemed harsh to say the least, leaving Lurgan just nine runs short of the Derriaghy total – and regretting those extras from the first innings.
