Singer puts in a pitch-perfect performance to tame Concrawood

As many as 25 local golfers enjoyed the splendid surroundings and fine weather as the Lost Boys headed to the stunning Concrawood course for their March Outing.

This challenging course helped swell the society coffers with plenty of lost balls amongst the groups.

Stuart Singer, fresh from signing for a 20 points ‘haul’ at Edenmore, must have been putting the work in behing the scenes as he found his A game with 34 points to win.

He didn’t have any space to spare, winning on count back over his closest rivals Robbie Baird and Keith Maguire, both also recording very good 34s.

AThere was a tie for Closest to the Pin with Stuart McCartney and newcomer Richard McMinn taking the trophy whilst Chris McGladdery scooped the Longest Drive - not the first time he has won a Lost Boys trophy.

It was good to see some more new members joining in for the outing. They were more than welcome and the society hope to see them all again in April at Armagh GC, where the course is always in great condition and the quality food in clubhouse is plentiful!

Five qualifying round matche alsos took place at Concrawood with some interesting results.

The Matchplay sponsor Chris McGladdery of Instyle Carpets Ltd was beaten on the last hole by Russell Connell, a definite upset which ‘Cricky’ didn’t take too well as he left the 18th. Warren Adams was also beaten by the impressive new member Robbie Baird three and one.

There was a repeat of last year’s final, which gave the same result as Al Day again provided too much for the competitive Matthew McGaffin.

Another new member in Ryan Lappin was beaten convincingly by this season’s self-titled favourite Paul English. Finally, new vice-captain David Sterritt was humbled seven and five by Stuart McCartney, certainly one to watch in both this year’s League and Matchplay.

Round Three will take place on Sunday 19th April at Armagh Golf Club

There is a “Colours” theme for this outing where players are encouraged to wear bright colours, tartan or basically anything out of the ordinary.
