The game initially began as a rather cagey affair but with South dominating possession.

The first real chance of note came via an Adam Glass drag flick which was competently dealt with by the visitors ‘keeper. South started to ramp up the pressure on the opposition but to no avail.

Mark Conn somehow managed to hit the upright with a tame effort from four yards. After a marauding run down the right flank, Adam Glass unleashed a shot which thundered off the crossbar - much to the anguish of the home fans.

The deadlock was eventually broken midway through the first half. Paul Maguire reacted quickest to pounce on a rebounded effort and slot home to give the hosts a deserved lead. Maguire then doubled the advantage with an almost identical effort - reversing in a shot from a narrow angle - after the visitor’s ‘keeper had saved.

If ever a match was befitting of the cliché ‘a game of two halves’, this was it. A game which should have been put to bed by South wasn’t, and to their credit Antrim worked their way back into it.

A short corner which was well dealt with by South’s ‘keeper Chris Moulden, somewhat fortuitously fell to the stick of an Antrim forward, who made no mistake in converting.

And within a few minutes, the game was back on level terms and equally poised going into the final 10 minutes.

South have dropped points on several occasions this season after throwing away leads. However, this was not to be one of those days. With less than two minutes remaining, South’s John Semple waltzed his way past the Antrim left back before playing a tantalising ball across the circle which that man Maguire expertly finished.

Final result 3-2 to the hosts. A hat-trick for Maguire and another 3 points for the Club which keeps the momentum going nicely.

A big thanks to South Antrim’s Sponsors of the Month, Fred Dalzell and Partners.
