South ladies win against Malone whilst the fifths lose

South Antrim Ladies hosted a home match against Malone on Saturday. The game got off to a slow start with Malone getting most possession of the ball.

Laura McConnell soon found the back of the net putting the ladies a goal in front. A poorly defended penalty corner from Malone resulted in South getting a penalty flick. Catherine Faulkner, who has never missed a flick, stepped up for the team and confidently found the back of the net. 2-0 to home team.

Going into the second half, South had a comfortable lead with two goals but a blinder from Danielle Heasley secured the match to give the ladies a well-earned 3rd goal.

The scoreline could have extended but unfortunately there were two disallowed shots from Sarah Neil.

Player of the match went to young Cathy Gillis, who played an excellent match.

South Antrim Fifths 1

Lisnagarvey Sixths 6

South Fifths faced tough opponents this week in Lisnagarvey in round 2 of the Minor Cup. The game started off well for South with some strong attacking play from Chris Black and Chris Moulden but they were unable to break through the Garvey defensive line.

Garvey hit South on the counter attack three times in the first half and capitalised on all of those chances. That brought the game to 3-0 at half time.

With a strong half time team talk South went out and got one goal back but it wasn’t enough to stop the wave of Lisnagarvey forwards from getting another 3 goals.
