SPORTS AWARDS: Young sprinters on track for team award

Ballymena & Antrim Athletic Club's under-13 4x100 metre relay team can now pass a Sports Award trophy to each other, as well as the baton!

Jonathan Cochrane, Caleb Moore, Ronan Campbell and the absent James Wright sprinted their way to a memorable season, the highlight of which came in the Firmus Energy invitational event at the Mary Peters Track, during which they broke the Northern Ireland record of 52.7 seconds, which had stood for 21 years.

The team finished the season as the third fastest club team at under-13 level in the UK. The only event they didn’t win all season was the All-Ireland championships where, due to different age groupings in Irish athletics, they had to compete in the under-14 race, where they came third.

Jonathan, Ronan and Caleb collected their award from John Millstead, of sponsor Michelin.

Also short-listed: Bridini Og under-14s (camogie); Ballymena Cricket Club Second XI (cricket).
