Springwell juniors at All-Ireland Cross-Country

Aviva All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country Championship

Four of Springwell juniors travelled to Galway on Saturday for the Aviva All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country Championship at St Mary’s College. These young athletes were representing their schools having qualified from the Ulster Schools Championships in February.

Junior Girls 2500m: Aoife McSheffrey Limavady Grammer 19th 10:35

Junior Boy’s 35oom: Luke Dinsmore CAI 15th 13:17.

Inter Boy’s 5000m: Conor Christie Cross & Passion 10th 16:12.

Senior Girls 2500m: Deborah Gilliland Coleraine High 16th 10:23.

Alan Bogle (City of Derry 43:53) and Shileen O’Kane (Lagan Valley 53:47) ran out clear winners of the opening round of the Northern Ireland Mountain Running Championship in the Glens of Antrim on Saturday. Championship status ensured a record entry for 11th running of the race from Waterfoot which covers 6 miles with 1,100 feet climb and was sponsored by Glens of Antrim Potatoes.

Springwell had two representatives at the race. Chris Millar was first home in 55:10 followed by David Jackson 55:34. The six race NI Championship Series moves to the Mournes for the second round, the Annalong Horseshoe race climbs 5 major peaks in 13 miles and takes place on 28 April.

Alistair Shaw and Thomas Moore ran the Addiction 10K in Ormeau Park, Belfast on Sunday. Alistair ran a sub 40 to set a new PB of 39:24 closely followed by Thomas in 40:19. The race was won by Annadale Striders Keith Purdy in 34:07.
