Spurred on by draw

COUNTY Armagh’s Premier team will be out to make an impression when the tournament kicks off on Saturday, July 21.

After a frustrating tournament last year, new manager Brendan Grimes is hoping for better luck this time around.

The Premier side start their campaign with a match against Tottenham Hotspur in what will be a difficult game for the local side.

But Grimes is hoping that his players can make the most of their opportunity and shine in the prestigious competition.

“Last year we struggled to score goals when it came to the Milk Cup week,” he said.

“But hopefully we can have a bit more luck in front of goals this year.

“We’ve had a mixed build-up to the Milk Cup, but in the last few weeks a lot of things have started to come together.

“And in the last few warm-up games in particular, we have been creating plenty of chances so that is very encouraging.”

Following the Tottenham game, Armagh face a County Tyrone side in Broughshane in what will be another difficult match.

“Spurs will be a very tough match to open because they are a professional side and will be very organised,” added Grimes.

“It will be difficult for us, especially on the wide, open pitch at the Shamrock Park.

“We’ve played Tyrone enough times over the years to know exactly what to expect.

Armagh’s third match is against Desportivo Brazil at The Warren in Portstewart.

“We have a rough idea of what Desportivo will bring to the table,”

added Grimes.

“Over the years we have played plenty of teams from South America, they will play a fast-paced game and will have plenty of tricks in the bag.

“It’s a challenge for all of us, but one that we are all looking forward to.
