Strong running from Glenn and Brady at Magherafelt road race

Local runners Nat Glenn and Bernard Brady took fifth and sixth spot respectively at the Magherafelt 5-mile Road Race on Saturday.

Tackling a new route, the runners had to compete with a strong headwind for parts of the race and they finished on the outdoor track at the Medowbank Sports Arena. Glenn, now of North Belfast Harriers , performed well and took the V40 prize in a time of 28:37 - just a matter of weeks before his 50th birthday.

On Sunday, Larne’s Stuart Maxwell was in the Netherlands to compete at the Rotterdam Marathon.

Around 20,000 runners followed the course which looped through the city on a calm, sunny day. Stuart completed his first full marathon in a fantastic time of 4:10:22.

Larne-based North Belfast Harriers taking part in Saturday’s local parkrun posted the following times: Mathew McIlroy, 21:30; Bernadette Campbell, 23:39 PB; Trisha Campbell 23:40; Janice Plumb, 23:47.

At the Whitehead 5-Mile Road Race on Easter Monday, David Clarke finished in 28:52 claiming 5th overall and first male over 50. Sean McAllister ran 32.32. Janice Plumb timed 33:08 to claim sixth female and 1st female over 40.

Trisha Campbell finished less than a minute behind for 7th female in a time of 34:00. Next over the line for the local group was Bernadette Campbell (38:53), closely followed by Carol Clarke (39:07, 21st female).
