Cancer Focus NI aims to raise a bumper £34k during June – Men’s Health Month - at a series of MegaPulls in five towns to help keep its health check Man Van on the road.

The Coleraine event will take place at The Diamond, this Saturday, June 6th, from 9am to 12 noon – and everyone is invited to take part.

The Man Van is a mobile unit that brings vital health checks and lifesaving messages to men at community venues, sports clubs, gyms, leisure centres and workplaces all over Northern Ireland.

Glenn, who is a World’s Strongest Man competitor and five times winner of UK’s Strongest Man, said: “Cancer Focus NI needs men - and women - to take on the challenge of pulling its 2.5 tonne Man Van over 500m in teams of four through their local town. You don’t need to be a Strongman but with the help of a few teammates, you can pull your weight and help lower the risk of men’s cancers in Northern Ireland. You can help your men be healthier!”

Eoin Treanor, Community Fundraiser for Cancer Focus NI, said: “Every year in Northern Ireland around 4,500 men are diagnosed with cancer. That’s a startling statistic considering that about half of all cancers can be prevented by making healthier lifestyle choices.

“The Cancer Focus NI Man Van is a vital service bringing lifesaving messages to our community and workplaces, helping to lower the risk of cancer. Men who come on board our Man Van can have their body composition and measurements assessed, blood pressure and blood glucose checked, and get one-to-one health awareness advice.

“We need you - our heroes - to step up and take on the Man Van MegaPull challenge to allow us to continue to offer this valuable service to the people of Northern Ireland!”

The Man Van MegaPull is also taking place in Armagh, Belfast, Magherafelt and Omagh. Registration is £30 and all heroes are asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. If you’d like to get involved in other ways, then you and your friends could help marshall the events.
