Sun shines for bowlers

Last Saturday Lurgan Bowling Club’s Opening Day was bathed in spring sunshine in the idyllic surroundings of the Park.

The green was in superb order thanks to the excellent pre-season work done by the Derek Wrigley, greenkeeper.

After the traditional flag-raising by Club President, Stephen Poots his fiancée Edith Hobson delivered the first bowl of the season.

Some 60 members and friends were present for the occasion and the rinks were full of enthusiastic bowlers for the President’s Charity Rinks Tournament in aid of his chosen charity Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Gent’s prize was won by Brian Brown and the Ladies’ by Edith Hobson.

After afternoon tea provided by the Club President and his fiancée and supplied in the pavilion by Buttered Up, Mrs Norah Johnston, Lady President presented Edith Hobson with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, specially arranged by Wilderness.
